2022 Spring Beauty Trends You Need to Know About

The spring 2022 runways came through for us with major beauty inspo. We found ourselves unable to resist the beauty bandwagon of new trends and styles. From memorable glossy lips to 3D embellishments that added spice to bare complexions — this year’s spring trends drew us in like a model to a runway.

Join us as we take a look at the makeup, nails, hairstyles, and colors that dominated the fashion season.

Glossy Lips

Glossy lips are back in style! From high gloss nudes and bold reds from Fendi, bright corals and dark berries at Giambattista Valli to shiny lips at the Boss x Russell Athletic Show and lacquered pouts at Nina Ricci — gloss caught the light and attention of spring/summer 2022 (SS22) collections.

The icing on the cake? The launch of high shine lip gloss by Victoria Beckham. Glossy lips are the way to go this year. It’s time to bring on the shine.

Glitter Vibes

The SS22 runways showed us that 2022 is the year to shine, sparkle, and bedazzle. From glitter on ears, hands, and feet at Collina Strada to shimmering hair with an ethereal glow at Blumarine, glitter sparkled like diamonds as models showed off the latest styles.

These fierce boss queens showed us how to pull off glitter beautifully and stylishly while adding extra glam to springtime.

3D Embellishments

Luar led the 3D makeup look with models rocking sharper-than-a-knife cat eye makeup. Meanwhile, models at Etro bedazzled their under-eye areas with crystal and metallic gems.

Hold on to your stylish seats because that’s not all. We spotted the rose-gold foil look on the Simone Rocha runway and sequined lips at Acne. Evidently, SS22 was quick to ride on the popularity of 3D embellishments, a distinctive look from the hit HBO series Euphoria.

Drool-worthy Hair Accessories

Statement-making hair accessories were a dime a dozen this season. Simon Rocha and Yuhan Wang had their faire share of gorgeous sparkly tiaras and small, colorful crystal baubles. Fendi sported anthurium hairpins fastened into 70s-inspired hairdos and sleek chignons. These headpieces and accessories added an extra oomph, giving us a deliciously fashionable head-to-toe look to feast on.

Neons

SS22 isn’t short or shy of color. The bright, fun spring vibe found its embodiment in acid-bright neons. Proenza Schouler’s runways were adorned with saturated fuchsia and tangerine eyelids while Prabal Gurung showed off more dramatic, fluorescent eyeshadow. Versace and Chloe continued to wow us with multicolored cat eyes.

We found neons taking centerstage followed closely (very closely) by plenty of good old traditional black liner.

Statement Blush

The idea that blush is only good for sculpting cheekbones and brightening our complexions is so 2021. Models at Carolina Herrera proved just how powerful this makeup product can be by wearing blush across the entire cheek. Yes, that’s right — the entire cheek and they looked good doing it too.

Models at Anna Sui took the trend to new heights by rocking the runway with blush on their cheeks, temples, and eyes. Who needs eyeshadow when you’ve got blush?

Artfully Crafted Hair

SS22 focused surprised us all with new styles. You no longer have to depend on hair accessories to spruce up your look when you’ve got choppy wigs at Loewe and unexpected cuts and shades at shows like Halpern and Dries Van Noten.

And who can forget the classic slicked-back hairstyle that featured in Jonathan Simkhai, Chanel, and Lanvin’s shows? We’re dreaming of wet lacquered waves and hair in sleek chignons. It’s enough to give us new hair goals for the new year.

Fresh Red Lips

If there’s anything the major runways have taught us it’s that you can never go wrong with crimson lipstick. Models at Michael Kors rocked bold red lips that brightened otherwise bare faces. In the meantime, the beautiful belles of Saint Laurent rocked futuristic shades that emphasized just how powerful simple red lips can be.

Ready to revel in the warm weather and say goodbye to the cold, dreary winter? Count us in. We’re more than ready with our shameless yet vibrant red pouts.

Pastel Lids

Pastels make spring so much better. The models of Tanya Taylor, as well as Paul & Joe, will definitely agree. Tanya Taylor’s ensemble included pale pastel eyeshadows while Paul & Joe came through with swirly, artistic designs on one eye. What a relief for us girls who never seem to get eyeshadow on both eyes right!

Flushed Lips

Sure, matte and gloss are pretty on the lips but you know what’s prettier? A soft, blurred finish that gives an elusive “petal-like” vibe. Models at the Ulla Johnson show rocked this natural spring look to perfection. We can’t wait to try it out.

Face Paint

Eye-catching whimsical looks made magical appearances at Thom Browne, Rodarte, and Paul & Joe. From flowers, rainbows, and clouds to theatrical contours, sculptural contouring, and gray blocks — the collective artistry of the SS22 collection was undeniable.

Complexion as the Main Character

When it came to SS22, fresh and natural skin is in. (This is the nudge you need to be consistent with your skincare routine.) Like the models that walked the runway for Monse this season, rock a fresh face without heavy layers of foundation. For an offbeat approach to beauty, let your tinted base do the talking. You’d be pleasantly surprised by how many fresh faces walked the runway this season.

Before You Go: Be Colorful, Be You

The spring/summer 2022 runways were bold, colorful, and creative. This season’s looks saw glossy lips, skin glitter, 3D embellishments, screaming neons, and sleek hairstyles as well as volume-filled waves.
