How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last?

The glamorous look of long, voluminous lashes is something that many of us yearn for. Few of us are blessed with the amped-up volume of these natural beauties, though. Fortunately, there are options to achieve the fluttery look you’ve always wanted.

What Are Eyelash Extensions

Let’s start out by answering the question: What are eyelash extensions? In short, eyelash extensions are individual lashes made from either synthetic hair, mink, or silk. Whichever type you choose, they are applied individually to the base of your natural lash on the lash line using semi-permanent glue, and they can last for several weeks.

Eyelash extensions are customizable. This means that you can choose the length and volume of your lashes, similar to other types of faux lashes

How Are Eyelash Extensions Applied

The in-salon lash extension application process takes one to two hours, depending on how many lashes are being applied. Just so you’re aware, though, improper application can cause breakage if the faux lash weighs too heavily on your natural lashes. That means you need to ensure that the person applying the lash extensions is a licensed esthetician, cosmetologist, or is certified in providing lash services.

Lash Extension Maintenance

At-home maintenance can be tedious with eyelash extensions. Generally, it’s recommended that you keep your eyelashes dry for at least 48 hours after they are first applied.

Why? Because water can cause the lash glue to become brittle and release its hold on the lashes, meaning that you might be dealing with premature shedding of the lashes. This means that you’ll be going back for a touch-up sooner than you’d like. Your look (and your wallet) probably won’t thank you.

After the initial 48 hours, you still need to keep the extensions dry and out of water. This can make cleansing your face and taking showers somewhat tricky. Oh, and no getting your lashes wet as you lounge at the pool either.

Here are a few other maintenance tips to keep in mind:

  • It is also recommended that you not rub your eyes or sleep on your side, as this can cause premature lash shedding.
  • Oil cleansers are also not recommended because oil has a tendency to dissolve the glue used for applying eyelash extensions.
  • Do not use eyelash curlers on lash extensions, as this will cause lash breakage.

Does that sound like a ton of rules to you? Because it definitely does to us.

Lash Extension Refills

The length of wear time for lash extensions depends on a few factors, like water exposure, the position you sleep in, and whether or not you rub your eyes. Typically, they last about six weeks, which is about the amount of time it takes for your natural lashes to complete one growth cycle. That said, they may very well start looking a little sparse well before that amount of time is up.

Once the six-week mark has been reached, you must get what’s called a “lash refill.” This is where the technician uses new faux lashes to fill in the places where your lashes have fallen out.

Over time this can become costly. We are talking hundreds of dollars. Refills can vary in cost depending on the length, volume, and material of the lashes.

In addition to cost, damage to your natural lashes and sensitivity is always a possibility when wearing lash extensions. So while extensions can certainly give you long, luscious lashes, they have quite a few downsides, too.

Lash Extension Removal

Okay, guys. Do not attempt to remove eyelash extensions on your own. This can lead to natural eyelash loss because the faux lashes are attached individually.

If you attempt to remove them on your own, it can cause bald spots, not to mention it can be painful. These bald spots have the potential of never re-growing lashes again in that area, and to that, we say no thanks!

Other Lash Options

Most of us will go to new lengths to achieve the fluttery, long lashes we see celebrities flaunt. Faux lashes can be flirty and fun!

If you think eyelash extensions are too permanent, expensive, or unsafe, there are more affordable faux lash options that look just as good—no, even better—than lash extensions.

Glue-On Lashes

These lashes are applied at home with a lash adhesive. While some people love glue-on lashes, they really aren’t much better than extensions when it comes down to it. They can be messy to apply because the glue can smear and stick to the lashes and to your fingers. Along with being messy, when improperly used, lash glue can be dangerous.

Lash adhesives generally contain ingredients that are very toxic if swallowed. Irritation and sensitivity can also occur in the application area. If a bad reaction occurs, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Magnetic Lashes

Magnetic lashes are band lashes that magnetically attach to the natural lash line, thanks to the use of a magnetic liner. Glamnetic has created safe, reusable magnetic lashes that are super easy to use, and these falsies can last up to 60 wears, if properly maintained! This is a much longer wear time than lash extensions and glue faux lash sets. Not to mention, they are much more affordable.

For people who want it all, magnetic lashes are the way to go.

Why Choose Glamnetic?

Glamnetic magnetic lash extensions are easy to apply. Simply use the magnetic eyeliner just like you would your regular eyeliner. Then, lay the lashes directly over the liner. They will easily adhere to the magnetic eyeliner, and you’ll be ready to walk out the door looking fabulous.

As if that wasn’t enough, our magnetic liners come in a variety of color options. This makes the application process and wear fun and flirty. Choose black for a classic look or purple for a pop of color. The felt tip delivers precise application with each stroke, and the formula is waterproof and smudge-proof, so it’ll stay in place all day.

Magnetic Lash Care And Removal

Glamnetic magnetic lashes are easy to remove. Gently pull the lash band away from the lash liner. Voila! It’s seriously that easy.

If there is any magnetic residue left on the lash magnets, simply scratch it off. The magnetic liner can be removed with a makeup remover or micellar water, and then you just need to place them in the box that they came in to keep the lashes in tip-top shape.

Why Magnetic Lashes Over Lash Extensions

Magnetic lashes are considered the safest type of faux lash available today. With easy at-home application and safe ingredients, it’s easy to see why many people choose magnetic lashes.

One of the best things about Glamnetic magnetic lashes is that they are totally customizable. The type you choose to wear can depend on your eye shape and lifestyle, and you can build a collection that will take you from the office to a night out with ease. Take our lash quiz to find out which lashes would best fit your eye shape. Eye shape can determine the way lashes appear on the eyes.

From everyday wear to a bold vixen vibe, we have a set waiting for you. Mink or silk, the choice is yours.
