Magnetic lashes have set the new standard for easy, no-mess lash application. However, recently, there has been buzz about a clear “magnetic” eyeliner.
Claims state that the clear liner holds your magnetic lashes in place in the same way that the black magnetic liner does. Can that be true? Let’s find out.
What Is Magnetic Eyeliner?
Magnetic eyeliner holds your magnetic lashes securely in place, and it comes in trendy colors and different formats. A felt-tipped pen magnetic eyeliner creates precise lines and winged cat eyes beautifully. Plus, it doesn’t pull your skin when it glides across your eyelid.
Liquid magnetic liner plays as your regular liquid liner, but it has magnetic properties to hold your lashes in place. Its highly pigmented matte black finish stays put all day, and the small applicator tip brush makes drawing fine lines and the perfect flick a no-fuss event.
Magnetic eyeliner is safe for use around the eye area, and it has to be worn for the magnetic lashes to cling to your lash line. Plus, magnetic lashes are the safest form of false lashes because they don’t involve harsh chemicals as glue does.
The main ingredient in the magnetic eyeliner that holds the lashes in place is iron oxide. Iron oxide is the magic ingredient behind the magnetic lash bond.
What Is Iron Oxide
The main ingredient in magnetic eyeliner is iron oxide. It is a group of compounds—16, to be exact. Iron oxide works as the magic that creates the magnetic attraction between the magnetic liner and the lashes.
Iron oxide is a compound that contains iron and oxygen, and it has magnetic properties. When metal objects are exposed to water, it forms reddish-brown rust. Rust is a naturally occurring form of iron oxide. Iron oxide is the result of the oxidation of iron.
The FDA has approved iron oxide for use in cosmetics and skincare products, and it has been used in the cosmetic industry since the early 1900s. Iron oxide gives color to cosmetics and other products, so you’re likely already using it without even knowing it!
Pigments of color naturally occur in iron oxide. That means that iron oxide is naturally pigmented, not clear or transparent. Iron oxide can be black, red, yellow, and brown but never clear.
The iron oxide that is produced naturally contains heavy metals which aren’t safe for the human body. That is why the iron oxides contained in magnetic eyeliner and cosmetics and other products are produced synthetically. It is done this way for safety reasons because it makes the iron oxide safe for use and FDA-approved.
When iron oxide is produced synthetically, it is purified. The purification makes it free of irritants and other unpleasant metallic elements. When iron oxide is made synthetically, it is safe for use in many consumer products.
What Is Clear Magnetic Eyeliner?
Some companies are making claims that they sell clear magnetic liner and that it keeps magnetic lashes in place securely. If eyeliner is a genuine magnetic eyeliner, it cannot be clear.
Since magnetic liner consists of iron oxides and iron oxides contain color, a magnetic liner can’t be clear. It just isn’t possible. That’s why we don’t sell clear magnetic liners—they simply don’t exist.
These so-called “magnetic liners” are clear adhesive liners, sometimes called bonds. They contain chemicals and other ingredients that allow the lash strip to adhere to your lash line. Eyeliner that is a genuine magnetic liner will be black or another pigmented color, never clear.

How to Use Glamnetic Magnetic Liner
Glamnetic magnetic liner is easy to use. In a few swipes, you’ll be on your way to fabulous lashes. Here’s how:
- Shake the magnetic liner tube for about ten seconds.
- Draw a line with the magnetic liner as thick or thicker than the size of the magnets on the lash band. Place the eyeliner as close to your lash line as possible, just like you would apply regular eyeliner. Draw a winged cat-eye if you want to add drama. Repeat on the other eye.
- Allow the liner to dry 80% before applying your lashes. This usually takes between 15 and 30 seconds.
- Lay the magnetic lash band on top of the liner. The lashes will cling to the liner immediately. Gently lift and readjust if necessary.
- Press the lashes into the liner to make sure they are connected securely. Perform a pull test by carefully pulling the lashes to make sure they cling to the liner all the way across the eye.
